In Bangladesh there are two govt. running maritime institutions.
- Bangladesh Marine Academy- Under the Ministry of Shipping.
- Marine Fisheries Academy- Under the Ministry of Fisheries and Live Stock.
Both the Academy completes a three years graduation course. After the passing out from these academy a cadet can directly join in a ship. Cadet passed out from Marine academy get the access to join in a foreign ship directly .But the Cadet passed out from Marine Fisheries Academy are to join in the fishing vessels first.There they have to serve several years and have to complete there professional exams and after that they get the opportunity to go to the merchant ship.
There are Several Non govt. running maritime institutions in Bangladesh.They demand a high tuition fees (Around 8-12 lacks ) and prepare a candidate to join in a merchant ship as an officer cadet. They also ensure the job facilities for the candidate. The well known Non govt. running maritime institutions in Bangladesh are -

- IIMT
